How To Write The Ultimate Product Review Blog Post

Writing a product review blog post isn’t at the top of anyone’s list for “epic” content.  It can be, though, if you use the right strategies when writing it!

Are you a new blogger struggling to get your content noticed?  Or maybe you’ve been blogging for awhile now, but your subscriber list has plateaued, and you’re not sure how to get your content in front of new readers?

Don’t fret, my friends, I’m going to show you how one blog post, will not only get your blog noticed, but also get readers excited enough about your content to share your post, and subscribe to your email list!

By the way, this post contains affiliate links, so if you click on them, I may receive a small commission which helps me pay the bills, so thanks!

Now, let’s do this.

How To Boost Traffic, Post Shares, and Subscribers With One Blog Post

The Ultimate Review Post

A review post, really?  I’m sure you’re wondering why you even got your hopes up, but stay with me.  I’m not talking about any review post, I’m talking about your ultimate review post.

This review post is going to get read, and shared, and you ARE going to get subscribers when it goes live.

The Ultimate Product

The first step is finding the right product to review.  This might take a little homework, but trust me, it is key to getting your readers to pay attention.

Find a product or service in your niche, that is popular right now.

  • Scroll through your home page on your social media accounts, and take note of the ads that are displayed.
  • Check the websites of merchants in your niche to see what products they are featuring on their homepage.
  • Check out Amazon’s top sellers in your niche.  Use this link to go straight to their best-sellers, and has a ton of other useful information.

Your review post will get more attention if your writing about a product that everyone is talking about.  If they’ve been seeing ads recently for the product you choose, your readers are going to want to know what you think.

If they’ve been thinking about purchasing the product, your review will help them make the decision to buy, or not buy.

Include A Discount

If at all possible, find a discount, for the product that you are reviewing.

Whether your giving a 5-star review or not, telling readers about ways to save on your product will be appreciated.

If you’re using affiliate links in your post (learn more about affiliate marketing here), offering a discount builds trust with your reader, and makes them more likely to take action with your link instead of going directly to the merchant.

A discount is also a great tool for adding subscribers to your email list.  By adding a CTA (call-to-action) button to access the discount, gets readers to give up their email address in exchange for access to your discount.  They will appreciate you doing the price-shopping for them, and you gain a subscriber. ChaChing.

Host A Giveaway

So far, if you’ve followed the above tips, you’ve got the readers attention, and you’ve offered a discount in exchange for their email address.  That’s pretty good for a simple review post!

But you can do better, and take your post from good to ultimate.  What do consumers want more than a discount?  How’s about a freebie, for one lucky reader?

Hosting a giveaway that’s connected to your review post, will get readers excited and get them engaged!  They will give up their email address, share your post on their social media accounts, follow your social media accounts, and yes, you can (and should) ask them to do all of those things.

Viralsweep is a great tool for offering giveaways or sweepstakes on your blog, and their free version has everything you need to host as many giveaways as you want.

Rinse & Repeat

Now that you know how to boost traffic, post shares, and subscribers with one blog post, you’re probably going to start writing reviews regularly.  This could get expensive, especially depending on your niche.

Don’t get discouraged…I’ve got you covered!

Get Free Products To Review & Give Away To Readers

Yes, you read that correctly, you can get free products to review and give away to your readers!  Plus, you can even make money each time a reader uses your links to purchase an item.

Get started with affiliate marketing, and you’ll have opportunities to receive free products and services from your merchants, in exchange for your review posts.

I recommend signing up with FlexOffers.  They have over 10,000 merchants to choose from, and have a very easy-to-use platform.    It’s free and easy to get started, and if you want to learn more before signing up, check out my related post New Blogger’s Guide To Affiliate Marketing.

  1. How dop you get free products to review. I have a beauty blog and brands don’t like to send out frrebies until you have a large audience.

    1. Hi Erica,

I am sending you an email about this. It’s all about how you pitch them and targeting the right brands.
Congrats on your blog, and you should see my email soon.

  2. I have been blogging since 2010 and over the years have written loads of reviews. I am more selective than I used to be. I only have so much time and only bother with products I am really interested in. I find that if I can write a tutorial or a recipe post with a product it gets more traffic than just a plain old review. I write a lot of sponsored posts now and some pay very well. I especially like posts about food since my main focus now is being more of a foodie blogger. I write a lot for Influence Central and Social Fabric and just wrote my first post for Linqia. Here is a link to my linqia post. http://www.homeecathome.com/the-home-economist/the-best-on-the-go-healthy-treat-vitatops-muffintops

    1. Hi Faith!
That is a great tip, offering a tutorial to go along with the review post. I agree..only review products that you’re interested in, and obviously, make sure they’re in your niche, otherwise you will end up with a lot subscribers that aren’t even interested in your blog.
Congrats on your post with Linqia. I usually edit out any self-promo links in comments, but since it’s your first post with Linqia, let’s get some extra traffic there 🙂
Thanks for your feedback! I hope to hear more from you. Good luck!

  3. Thank you, some good suggestions. I’m following all your links to see if I can pluck up courage to do some affiliate marketing!

  4. Thanks for sharing your tips on writing a review post. I’ve read other review post tips but none that offered links which I found to be really helpful. I’m an Amazon junkie so I think I could be really successful at this. I just launched my blog and only have 3 posts up and running so far but it’s full steam ahead from here on out. So I’m excited to take on the challenge of writing a review post to boost my traffic!

  5. Your link to “New Guide to Affiliate Marketing” isn’t working 🙁
    Otherwise, good advice, very useful

    1. That’s great, Molly! Glad you’re already monetizing and hope you are doing well. If you need any help, be sure to reach out to me.

  6. There are plenty of tricks to drive traffic and these examples that you gave are at the very top. I’m sure a lot of bloggers will benefit from this post!

  7. Elizabeth O.

These are all lovely ideas. It’s really nice to be able to host a giveaway for your readers. People will be flocking to your blog especially if the prize is something that a lot of people want.

  8. I can certainly understand that it’s good to review a product in your niche. Harder to think of a particular product when you are a lifestyle blogger but I do appreciate the tips nonetheless.

  9. Thank you for this information. I have been working on a product review and find these tips very helpful.

  10. Great ideas! Reviews and giveaways are good at driving traffic! I did a freebie roundup type post recently, and that got a ton of views as well. People love free and discounts!

    1. NextLevelBlogging

Absolutely! A freebie roundup is an excellent idea. I think I will work on that in an upcoming post.

  11. This is so awesome article , I found crucial steps for blog boost, thank you, keep up the great work

    1. NextLevelBlogging

Yes, I’m running a giveaway right now for my launch party, and it is going great.
      Thanks for the feedback!

  12. That is a great way of generating traffic. I am very close to hitting 5 K on Instagram and just hit 1 K on Twitter so I will be planning a giveaway soon. Not sure what yet though!

  13. Very useful suggestions – reviews add value to both parties. We also do many curated posts. With so much of content around, the ability to cull out info is appreciated by readers.

  14. Good tips – and I love it that so many bloggers are getting into reviewing. It’s fun getting to see what kinds of products they like using, and I love having the feedback when it comes to making purchasing decisions. I’d love doing more product reviews on my own blog as well – it’s fun trying out new stuff!

  15. Review posts are definitely helpful as long as they are well written and aren’t just a commercial for the product! I want to know the quirks and the good things about the product.

Offering a discount as a lead generator is a great idea! I’ll have to try that!

  16. Great food for thought! My readers do like peronal reviews on relevant items. I just have to choose carefully.

    1. True. That’s what’s great about FlexOffers, they have so many merchants available, you’ll always find something relevant and they let you know about great deals with their top merchants!

  17. I haven’t tried hosting a giveaway yet since there’s nothing to give away for now. 😀 But it’s already in my list. Would you have tips on how to grow email lists?

  18. There are a lot of great ideas here. I hadn’t heard of FlexOffers before so I definitely checked them out. Thanks for sharing so much great information. I’ll be putting a lot of it to use in the future 🙂

    1. That’s great! I hope you’ll be at the launch party! I have so much more to share with you, especially if you’re interested in monetizing.
If you haven’t already, you can get on the guest list at nextlevelblogging.com/launch-party. Hope to see you!

  19. Oh my gosh that is so smart – I never thought to look at what was being advertised on my twitter feed and that kind of thing. I’m definitely going to apply some of these tips! Thanks for sharing 🙂

  21. Thanks for this. Definately useful. I don’t usually do product reviews. Perhaps I should change

  22. robin Rue

These are all great ways to boost traffic. And that is something we all want to do.

  23. Elizabeth O

As a long time blogger, I’ve tried all of the above, however, I’m very mindful of what I choose to review on my blogs. There are benefits and drawbacks to these approaches but, for a beginner blogger, these tips could be helpful… All the best with your launch! 🙂

    1. Thanks Elizabeth! If you have some tips that you use to boost traffic, I’d love to get your input. I’m always looking for new ideas myself, and it seems everyone has something different that works for them.
Thanks for stopping by, and for your feedback. Hope to hear from you again soon.

  24. I will definitely have a think about these points. I have tried giveaways etc and not really found that they garnish many results.

  25. Sometimes these things are so simple, but we don’t think about them
    Great ideas for bloggers!
    Thank you!

  26. Thanks for the info!! I’m not quite sure how I’d write a review post that would “fit” my page (it’s an inspirational/motivational life blog) haha but regardless, good to know the tips on affiliates and whatnot and if I can figure out a way to write a review post that fits down the road, I will! Thank you!
